Intending to have a de-congestion road, National Highway Authority of India decided to introduce a mandatory Left turn at Cyber Hub for commuters heading towards Udhyog Vihar as soon as elevated U-turn at the intersection turns out to be fully operational and that would be most probably by the end of April.

One of the NHAI Officers informed that commuters would take the elevated U-Turn which would necessarily reduce the traffic congestion at Shankar Chowk. Another piece of information was given by the project head NHAI Gurugram, Ashok Sharma said, “With the opening of the Shankar Chowk elevated U-turn, we will restrict traffic that comes from the CyberHub and takes a right turn towards Udyog Vihar. Commuters will have to take a compulsory left turn and then take the elevated U-turn to move towards Udyog Vihar. This will solve the congestion issue at Shankar Chowk.”

Shankar Chowk’s elevated U-turn is surely going to facilitate the movement from Delhi. According to officials, once the U-turn becomes fully functional, they are planning to open a median so that traffic can move smoothly to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

According to an NHAI consultant, nearly 70% of the work on the U-Turn has been completed and 55% work on the Ambience Mall Underpass is on the verge of completion. NHAI Consultant, Saurabh Singhal informed that work is at the pace on both the sites.

Since last March the work on the project was going and the deadline is was within 18 months. To their surprise, the work would be finished before time. Singhal confirmed that they had a time frame of 18 months but the project is going to take only 15 months. The exit ramp of the underpass is about to be completed and the installation of steel plates have been done.

In December 2019, 1.22 acres was acquired from the Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) on the Jaipur to Delhi side. NHAI started working on the Underpass’ entry ramp. The highways authority has cordoned off three left lanes (on the Jaipur-Delhi side) to complete the ramp of the underpass.

The NHAI contractor is going to start with the middle portion of the underpass box in the next 15 days. Singhal said that seven lanes of the expressway are going to be closed so that they could start with the construction of the underpass box. Both sides ramp is going to take hardly a few days.

By the middle of May, the underpass is likely to be opened. Officials of NHAI added that the underpass would be well indicated with signboards, reminding commuters to avoid speed that stands out as a common problem at many underpasses in the city. Commuters believe that Ambience Mall underpass would surely decrease the congestion and would save a lot of time.
