Sohna elevated road is now open: Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, stated that the Dwarka Expressway will be completed in 2023.

The long-awaited 22 Km long Sohna elevated road was opened in Gurgaon for the general public and is operational. The road is a much-anticipated project. A road helpful in decreasing the commute time between major cities like Gurgaon and Sohna is always welcome. The traffic will also get major cut because of the stretch of this road, cutting back on the travelling time as well. Through an intersection in Alipur, the elevated road length will also link to the Delhi-Vadodara expressway, giving a varied option for interchanging and links between cities.

The Sohna elevated road project is formed into two different segments which are divided like I first package, which is an 8.94-kilometre elevated segment from Subhash Chowk to a point outside Badshahpur – opened to commuters on Monday and is in operation. The second 12.72-kilometre segment from Badshahpur to Sohna was formerly scheduled to open for traffic on April 1, 2022. The elevated road project aims to allow uninterrupted, signal-free traffic between Gurgaon and Sohna.

The union minister for road transport and highways was informed by the way of a tweet about the opening of the Sohna elevated road. He tweeted, “The Gurgaon Sohna National Highway project has been constructed to a six-lane entrance restricted route with an average elevated stretch of around 7 km at a capital cost of approximately Rs 2000 crore. On both sides, 3 distinct roads have been built to facilitate local traffic mobility. Today is the first day of traffic on the roadway. This segment would also be linked to Delhi and Gurgaon via the Delhi-Mumbai highway.”

Due to successive lockdowns and pandemics, the construction which was started in 2018 and is expected to be completed within 30 months was delayed continuously. Near Sector 48, in August 2020 a 40-metre spine of the road also collapsed, further delaying the construction of the project. The final deadline was revised to June 30, 2022.

Gadkari also mentioned on Monday that the Dwarka Expressway, which is being constructed as India’s first elevated inner-city expressway, will be ready for use in 2023.
