Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro has started work on the Gurugram portion of Dwarka Expressway. Work has started on the eight-lane expressway from Basai RoB to NH 8 – SPR intersection in Haryana. The 8.76 km stretch of the road will be constructed by L&T under the Bharatmala Pariyojna. Development of this section of Dwarka Expressway will ensure seamless and safe movement of traffic between Delhi-Gurgaon and help in de-congestion of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The project comprises of 8-lane elevated structure for main carriageway of Dwarka Expressway, Trumpet Interchange NH248 will connect CPR & SPR & NH248 for Manesar Road and Cloverleaf interchange with NH-8-SPR intersection on multi utility road and NPR / CPR junction. The cloverleaf is crucial for smooth movement of vehicles from the Dwarka Expressway, also called Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), to the other side of the National Highway 48 to the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). With both SPR and the Dwarka expressway nearing completion this junction will become one of the busiest in NCR in future.
Under the project, a minor bridge will be widened, additional ROBs, five VUP (vehicle underpass), six Bus Bays with Bus Shelter will be erected and four Junction Improvements will be carried out. Once completed the road will emerge as an alternate route between Delhi-Gurgaon and it is expected to reduce the traffic load on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. This road will link New Gurgaon to golf course extension/ Sohna Road area and make New Gurgaon toll free. The length of the road is around 8.8km. The project will be executed under engineering, procurement and construction mode. The stretch will be almost entirely elevated and there will be two exit points at Babarpur and Pataudi Road. The company will carry out the piling work (making the floor for installing pillars of the elevated road) near the railway overbridge, on Basai Road and at Bajghera. NHAI has also planned underpasses for safe passage of vehicles at traffic crossings under the elevated road and L&T will construct the same. The trumpet and clover leaf interchanges are expected to be built around 1.5-2km before Kherki Daula toll on NH-8.
NHAI has also specified the speed limit of 80kmph on Dwarka Expressway, once completed the road will emerge as an alternate route between Delhi-Gurgaon and it is expected to reduce the traffic load on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. Northern Peripheral Road or NH 248-BB, commonly known as Dwarka Expressway is a 27.6 km (17.1 mi) long, under construction, 8-lane, controlled-access highway connecting Dwarka in Delhi to Gurgaon in Haryana. The expressway will take off from Km 20 of NH-48at Shiv Murti, Mahipalpur and terminate at Km 40 of NH-48 near Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, Gurgaon. The NPR has been planned as an alternate road link between Delhi and Gurgaon, and is expected to ease the traffic situation on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
Project
The expressway will start from Km 20 of NH-48 at Shiv Murti, Mahipalpur and cover Indira Gandhi International Airport, Dwarka and Bijwasan before entering New Palam Vihar in Gurgaon. It will terminate at Km 40 near Khirki Daula Toll Plaza where travellers will be able to move on to the Southern Peripheral Road and the proposed Delhi–Jaipur Expressway. The project has been divided into six packages
- Package 1: Shiv Murti to Rail under Bridge: This stretch will be 5.3 km long starting from Shiv Murti at NH-48 and ending at the approach of the Rail under Bridge near Sector 21, Dwarka.
- Package 2: Rail under Bridge to Delhi Haryana Border: This 4.2 km long stretch will be between Km 5.3 at the Rail under Bridge and Km 9.5 at the Delhi Haryana border on the expressway.
- Package 3: Delhi-Haryana Border to approach of Rail over Bridge in Basai: This stretch will be 10 km long between Km 9.5 to Km 19.5 of the expressway. The road will pass through Sectors 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 110, 111, 112 and 113 in Gurgaon. Since this section has continuous intersection of sector roads, most of the stretch will be constructed as elevated dual carriageway of 4 lanes each. The service roads will run beneath the main carriageway and will be elevated at all major junctions. The crossroads will also be depressed with underpasses at all major junctions.
- Package 4: Rail over Bridge to Kherki Daula: This stretch will start from Rail over Bridge at Basai and end at a cloverleaf near Kherki Daula at Km 40 of the NH-48, thus including the route originally planned for the CPR.
- Package 5: Road Tunnel from Dwarka Expressway to IGI Airport: DPR is currently being prepared for Package 5. Road Tunnel with its approaches including junction with Dwarka Expressway for western connectivity to IGI Airport from Dwarka expressway in the State of Delhi.
- Package 6: NPR to IGI Airport T3 Tunnel: Delhi Airport Tunnel Expressway, is a east-to-west running new 4 km tunnel being built from north-to-south running Northern Peripheral Road to Indira Gandhi International Airport-Terminal-3.
