Shankar Chowk, Gurgaon is one of the eminent junctions on Delhi Gurgaon Expressway (NH8). A number of people from Delhi travel to Gurgaon every day and what remains constant is the traffic that they face during the peak hours. Since it is an important part of Gurgaon, the Chowk always is seen buzzing with horns and rarely gets congestion-free. To overcome situations like this, almost one and half years ago, a proposal of widening the Shankar Road was proposed according to which, the work was supposed to be completed in this year itself.

GMDA will change the four-lane Shankar Road into six lanes. The road, which connects NH-8 with Old Delhi Gurugram Road at Dundahera, has seen an upsurge in vehicular traffic over the years. According to GMDA, the work would take two more months for completion. Not only the roads but footpaths and cycling tracks are also being stretched.

In the year 2018, regular complaints regarding the traffic were being made by the companies having their offices in Udyog Vihar pressured GMDA to prepare a road widening plan along with the traffic control plan. The plan of the authorities was to widen the road connecting Shankar Chowk to Old-Delhi Gurugram Road with total length of 9.9 m along with the three lanes on both sides. The cost of the project was estimated to be of Rs. 7 Crore.

GMDA appointed agency to carry out the work which is in process. The electric poles are being removed from the surface of the road and the cables are being laid underground. But the pedestrians are having a difficult time because of this process. An official of GMDA explained that due to the NGT ban on construction pollution control, the project got delayed. He added that the work has been resumed and the project is likely to be completed in the given frame of time.
