According to NHAI officials, within a couple of weeks, three lanes of the MCD toll plaza situated at Sirhaul will supposedly be shifted towards Delhi side so as to promote the construction of Ambience mall Underpass. The work on Ambience Mall underpass started in the year 2018 and was expected to be completed in March 2020.

In the insufficiency of safe passages such as Ambience Mall Underpass or a flyover, commuters face a lot of difficulties in traversing the expressway from the side of the Udyog Vihar to that of Ambience Mall and vice versa. The underpass when completed would provide a safe passage to commuters to reach Ambience Mall, DLF Phase-3, and main the carriageway of the expressway to travel towards Manesar.

Ambience Mall Underpass is a 377-metre four-lane underpass that will pave the way for a U-turn for traffic coming from the route of Jaipur towards Ambience Mall and will reduce travelling time for those who are driving all the way up to Rajokri flyover in Delhi.

Half the cost for the underpass is taken care of by the NHAI and the remaining will be shared equally by the Ambience Mall authorities and DLF that is a private developer. The underpass, that is being built at a cost of approximately ₹102 crores, will also help traffic appearing from the direction of Jaipur to take a U-turn towards Cyber City and Golf Course Road.

To facilitate the concluding stage of construction of the U-shaped Ambience Underpass, a portion of the land on the Jaipur-Delhi side of the expressway has to be dug up and is kept restricted of the traffic. Lanes 4, 5 and 6 will completely be disrupted whereas lanes 2 and 3 will be partially affected.

The NHAI contractor for this project said the change will be temporary. The highway authorities raised their queries against the same in a recent meeting with South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has confirmed that they have received the National Highway Authority of India’s (NHAI) request and the corporation agreed for providing the necessary support for the same. An SDMC official disclosed, “There few things that need to be decided on the modalities of the shifting and once that is worked out, things will move forward.”
