NHAI has started work on the Shankar Chowk Elevated U-turn. A section of Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, Delhi to Jaipur side main carriageway of NH-48 will be closed for traffic on February 22 and 23 from 11 pm to 6 am for the construction of the U-turn near DLF Phase-II. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) with the help of Gurugram traffic police will divert traffic on the service road of the expressway during the seven-hour period.

The traffic police said that they will deploy enough traffic personnel so that there is no congestion. NHAI will place barricades as per the permitted traffic diversion plan. The approval came on Thursday morning and the cops have also issued a traffic advisory on social media to avoid any confusion among commuters.

According to the highways authority consultant girders for the elevated U-turn will be positioned and then the slabs will be placed which won’t require any restriction for traffic movement. Traffic marshals of the NHAI contractor will be at the site to ensure that commuters don’t face any issues. Two heavy cranes of 150 tonnes will help in the process of positioning the girders on the flyover pillars.

Those coming from the Belvedere Towers side and intending go towards the IFFCO Chowk would now have to use the alternate route. The main carriageway of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway (Delhi-Jaipur side) will be blocked during night for traffic near the Shankar Chowk elevated U-turn site for two days. During the time the main carriageway is blocked, commuters will be able to access the service road and there won’t be any disturbance to traffic movement.

The elevated U-turn at Shankar Chowk will help in easing traffic coming from Delhi to take a U-turn towards Shankar Chowk. Work on the project started last March, with a deadline of 18 months is now approaching completion and is expected to be opened for public by April, ahead of its deadline. Once opened, the NHAI will introduce a mandatory left turn at Cyber Hub.
