Work has resumed on Gurgaon’s elevated U-turn flyover project at Shankar Chowk and Ambience Mall underpass. The ambitious is meant to ease bottlenecks and congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. According to officials the project will take another two weeks to gain the required momentum as work on the project came to a halt for over a month due to ban on construction activities, announced on November 4, to check pollution. On December 10, the Supreme Court lifted the ban on all construction activities, bringing much-needed relief to different infrastructure projects of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). NHAI and the project contractor has assured that it will take another 10-15 days to rearrange the workforce and complete the operational requirements. The work on underpass has also been stuck due to winter rain flooding the stormwater drains.
Likewise, the work on the elevated U-turn flyover project at Shankar Chowk can begin after shifting of cables. After finally getting the clearances from DHBVN and HVPNL, the NHAI has now sought approvals for resource leveraging from the officials for shifting of cables. Work had come to a halt on the Udyog Vihar side due to the non-shifting of overhead lines under the purview of the HVPNL. The Shankar Chowk flyover will help traffic coming from Cyber City to move towards Delhi without hindrance. At the Shankar Chowk side, we have finally got the approvals to remove the 66KV high-tension lines pertaining to HVPNL and 13 feeders of 11 KV lines pertaining to DHVBN. Sub-contractors have been hired and all we need now is the approval from officials for the resource leveraging that is needed for the removal.
The U-turn underpass at the Sirhaul toll plaza opposite Ambience Mall will help commuters turn towards IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway without heading to Rajokri in Delhi. The length of the U-turn underpass will be 377 metres and it would also have its own 559-metre-long and 7-metre-wide service road. The construction of a flyover at Shankar Chowk, will help traffic coming from the Cyber City to cross the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and turn towards Delhi without any interruption. Both these structures are being built at a cost of ₹163 crore and are a part of the overall plan to decongest the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The work on the project started in March this year and was to be completed by September 2020. However, due to multiple delays in the project and complete halt on the work for over a month, the official deadline has been extended by two months. The project would now be completed by July.
